SunBrite Product FAQ

What's the difference between Veranda, Signature, and Pro Series outdoor TVs?

See our Compare Models page for more information.

Why is the audio on my new 4K UHD TV not working on HDMI?

The most common reason for the sound not working on 4K TVs is an EDID handshake issue. The content source device and the TV perform a digital “handshake” to communicate correctly with eachother. If the TVs settings are not set for the correct content source, it can create audio and video issues.

The most common issue is when the TV EDID is set to receive 4K content, but the content source (cable box/media player/DVD player, etc.) is not 4K.

Here are the instructions to set EDID correctly for 1080P HD or 4K UHD content sources on both Veranda Series and Signature Series 4K TVs:

For SAVQT Veranda 4K UHD Models
1. With the TV powered on and fully booted up press the Menu button on the SunBrite remote.

2. Scroll down and click on “Input Settings”

3. Scroll down and click on “Set HDMI EDID”

4. Change desired input to the correct format of 1.4 or 2.0

HDMI EDID 1.4 is for 1080P HD source input resolution.

HDMI EDID 2.0 is for 4K UHD source input resolution.

For SAVQT Signature 4K UHD Models
1. With the TV powered on and fully booted up press the Menu button on the SunBrite remote.

2. Scroll to the right three times until you are at the “Setup” menu.

3. Scroll down and click on “EDID Switch”

4. Change the value to either “1.4” or “2.0”

HDMI EDID 1.4 is for 1080P HD source input resolution.

HDMI EDID 2.0 is for 4K UHD source input resolution.

What is the standard VESA pattern for SAVQT models?

Please see the “Specifications” tab on each SunBrite TV’s product page and reference “VESA Mounting Pattern”

How many HDMI ports are on the various models of SunBriteTVs?

Please see the “Specifications” tab on each SunBrite TV’s product page and reference “Input Connectors”

Are the mount dimensions of the SAVQT standard, if so can I use my own mount?

Indoor mounts may rust over time and may not adequately support the weight of outdoor TVs, which tend to be heavier than indoor TVs. SunBrite TVs have VESA-Compliant mounting patterns. SunBrite also offers a complete lineup of all-weather mounting options designed specifically for SunBrite TVs, including full-motion, tilt, and fixed wall mounts, ceiling mounts, and table top stands. SunBrite mounts are chemically treated to prevent rust, then coated with a durable finish.

Can the inputs be labeled on the SunBriteTV in the OSD menu of the TV?

SunBriteTV does not support this feature.

What type of audio output is available on the SunBriteTV?

Please see the “Specifications” tab on each SunBrite TV’s product page and reference “Input Connectors”

Can you connect external speakers to the SunBriteTV?

SunBrite TVs have many options to connect external speakers. Most SunBriteTVs have built-in amplifiers that enable plug-and-play compatibility with SunBrite all-weather soundbars. To find out more, please see the
SunBrite Accessory Compatibility chart.

SunBrite TVs also have audio output ports that allow you to connect to an external amplifier for larger outdoor sound systems. For more information on audio output options on specific SunBrite TV models, please see the “Specifications” tab on its product page and reference “Input Connectors”

What type of remote does the SunBriteTV use?

The SunBriteTV remote is an IR (Infared) remote controls the television. If you’d like to use a 3rd party or universal IR remote, Sony codes are typically compatible.

Some of the SunBriteTVs have RS232, what is this and do I need it?

RS232 is a type of connection typically used by professional installers to hard-wire the TV to a control system. Unlike IR control, it is a direct hard-wire connection which provides a 100% reliable connection and control. See
RS232 Control Codes - PDF

What is the difference between IR and RF control?

IR stands for Infrared light control. IR uses light beam pulses which are not visible to the human eye to control the TV. IR also requires a clear line of sight between the remote and TV, typical distance is 20-25 feet maximum.

If you use IR control, how well does it work outside?

Our IR remote is designed for outside use and has a high output transmitter to provide reliable operation in an outdoor environment.

I want to use my own IR remote. Where can I find HEX codes?

See this
HEX Codes list - PDF.

What is included with each TV?

Please see product pages for included items.

The LED is not completely visible in the IR window, is something wrong on the TV’s IR/LED window?

There is nothing wrong with the TV; the LED is offset in the window by design. We found that having the LED completely visible while using the TV can be distracting particularly at night.

Can the SunBriteTV be controlled directly with an RF (Radio Frequency) remote?

No, RF remotes are not compatible with the TV. See the “Control Set” section each product page’s “Specifications” tab. Some models offer additional control options including RS-232, HD-BaseT, or IP control.

How to protect an outdoor tv from theft?

Genuine SunBriteTV ceiling and wall mounts all include holes bored through their metal components so that you can use a padlock or similar locking device. This prevents would-be thieves from easily gaining access to the rear of the TV and dismounting it.

What is an HDMI extender, and why should it be used instead of an HDMI cable over long distances?

HDMI cables have limitations on the distance at which they will operate. These distances can vary depending on the type of source device driving the signal. HDMI extenders provide a more reliable signal over long distances.

HDMI extenders are used to connect the TV to a signal using common network category (ethernet) cabling. Unlike HDMI cables, category cable can be sourced, cut to length, terminated and installed at the installation by the installer and by most electricians. An extender will then be used at both the content source (satellite or cable box) and the TV to convert the HDMI signal to across the long-distance category cable.

Are SunBrite TVs waterproof?

"Waterproof" typically means that a product is made for full immersion underwater. Since most folks don't watch TV underwater, SunBrite TVs are built to withstand some of the most severe weather on earth. They can handle heavy rain, snow, pool splashes, icing, and high humidity.

Can you put a normal tv outside?

SunBrite TVs are engineered for safe, permanent outdoor installation. Indoor TVs manuals warn against outdoor use due to potentially dangerous consequences.
